Kaduna — The leadership of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has met with the management of Dangote Group in Lagos, raising alarm over recurring accidents involving trucks linked to the company in student-populated areas across the country.
The meeting, held at the Dangote Refinery Administrative Block, was attended by the Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, Mr. D.V.G Edwin, alongside other senior company officials.
Speaking at the session, NAPS President, Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, expressed deep concern over the growing number of students who had become victims of Dangote truck accidents. He cited several tragic cases that left students injured and families in distress, stressing the urgent need for compensation, safety reforms, and preventive measures.
NANS President, Comrade Olushola L. Oladoja, echoed the concern, describing the incidents as avoidable. He called for stricter operational standards and stronger enforcement of safety regulations to prevent further tragedies.
Responding, Dangote’s Director of Insurance, Mr. Obashola Alo, assured the student leaders that the company had begun responding to some of the cases. He revealed that one victim was airlifted to Lagos for medical care and emphasized that management was committed to ensuring that no victim was abandoned.
On his part, Dangote Vice President, Mr. Edwin, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety and corporate responsibility. He disclosed that:

All Dangote truck drivers are currently undergoing recertification.

Surveillance systems are being introduced to monitor compliance.

New reforms are being considered to strengthen operational standards.
He also clarified that some trucks displaying Dangote’s logo are owned and operated by independent partners, urging the public to always record plate numbers and other details in the event of accidents.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed on sustained engagement. While Dangote pledged closer collaboration with student bodies to secure justice and safety, NANS and NAPS vowed to closely monitor the process until tangible results are delivered.
