The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called on the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to halt its planned industrial action and instead engage in dialogue with the federal government. NANS Senate president, Akinteye Afeez, emphasized that a strike would severely impact students, who are already facing numerous challenges within the education system.
He highlighted that disruptions to academic calendars and exams could worsen the education sector's already fragile state and hinder students' progress. NANS emphasized unity and solidarity, urging the NLC to collaborate with the government and stakeholders to advance the nation's development agenda.
The student body acknowledged the government's efforts, noting that about 60% of the NLC's demands have been met. However, they warned that a strike could worsen economic challenges and disrupt citizens' lives. NANS urged the NLC to seek alternative dispute resolution methods and emphasized the importance of dialogue in addressing grievances and improving workers' welfare.
NANS pledged its support for the NLC's advocacy and efforts to tackle workers' challenges while ensuring the well-being of all Nigerians.
