ABUJA — The long-standing tension between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio seems to be easing, as the Kogi lawmaker has formally invited Akpabio to attend a project commissioning ceremony in her senatorial district.
The invitation, which also extends to other senators, was contained in a letter personally signed by Akpoti-Uduaghan and read aloud by Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary. The event is scheduled for Sunday in Ihima, Kogi State, to commemorate her second anniversary in the Senate.
“In marking my second-year anniversary as a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow Distinguished Senators to join me for the commissioning of projects in Kogi State,” the letter read.
According to the letter, the meeting point for visiting senators will be Akpoti-Uduaghan’s residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, Kogi State. Lawmakers arriving by air were advised to land at the Obajana Airstrip before continuing to Ihima by road.
After reading the letter, Akpabio smiled and said, “Congratulations in advance,” drawing laughter from his colleagues — a moment that signaled a lighter mood between the two senators.
The invitation is being seen as a significant step toward reconciliation following months of strained relations. Earlier in the year, Akpoti-Uduaghan had clashed with Akpabio over seat reallocation in the Senate — a disagreement that led to her six-month suspension on March 6.

Since her reinstatement on September 24, she has been more active in plenary sessions and has made several contributions to key legislative debates, including the Criminal Code Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
Her recent outreach to Akpabio, however, is viewed by many within the Senate as her most open gesture yet toward mending ties and fostering unity within the upper chamber.
