The National Assembly has once again postponed its resumption of plenary, shifting it from Tuesday, April 23 to Tuesday, April 30. This decision was announced by the Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, and the Clerk to the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, in separate messages in Abuja. This postponement marks the second time the National Assembly has delayed its resumption after the Easter and Eid-el-Fitr break.
Initially scheduled to resume plenary on Tuesday, April 16, the resumption was postponed to April 23 to allow for the completion of the renovation of the main chambers of the National Assembly. However, the extension was deemed necessary to accommodate the ongoing renovation work and other legislative preparations.
Akubueze's message to the Distinguished Senators explained the need for the postponement, stating, "Distinguished senators are hereby, respectfully informed that resumption of plenary, which was earlier postponed to Tuesday, April 23, 2024, has further been postponed to Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at 11 a.m." The House spokesman, Akintunde Rotimi, also reiterated the reasons behind the extension, including the need for more time to prepare for legislative summits on State Police and Tax Reforms, Revenue Enhancement, and Digital Transformation.
The National Assembly assured stakeholders of its commitment to accountability and timely communication, as outlined in its Legislative Agenda. All inconveniences resulting from the rescheduling were regretted, with the hope that the extended timeline would allow for better preparation and a more effective legislative session.
