The Parliamentary Staff Union of Nigeria (PASAN) has closed down the National Assembly in compliance with the indefinite strike action declared by Organised Labour to demand a living wage for Nigerian workers.
Both gates of the Assembly complex were locked by the union, preventing workers and visitors from entering. The union also shut off electricity and water supply to the Senate and House of Representatives buildings, along with other facilities in the complex.
Scheduled committee activities for the day, including a revenue monitoring hearing by the House Committee on Finance, were canceled due to the strike. Some auxiliary workers who reported for duty were denied access, and union officials ensured strict compliance with the strike action.
At the Federal Secretariat's phase one, which houses ministries such as Labour and Employment, Communication, and Niger Delta, among others, union leaders monitored the offices to ensure no staff were working.
