NCAA Cracks Down on Airlines for Misleading Departure Times

NCAA

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced it will sanction airlines engaging in deceitful departure time scheduling. Acting Director-General Capt. Chris Najomo emphasized this in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs/Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, on Tuesday. Najomo warned airlines to desist from such infractions or face severe regulatory actions.

Najomo highlighted the NCAA's zero-tolerance policy for regulatory violations and its efforts to facilitate ease of business for operators. He noted that processes for licensing, including securing an Air Operator's Certificate (AOC), have become simpler and quicker. In return, the NCAA expects airlines to provide world-class services to passengers, ensuring accurate departure times are advertised.

The NCAA has also been monitoring compliance with its regulations, recently suspending ten Permits for Non-Commercial Flights (PHCF) for failing to comply with recertification advisories issued in April 2024. Najomo reiterated the Authority's commitment to safety, discipline, and economic regulation, citing high scores in the Presidential Enabling Business Council (PEBEC) ranking and the ICAO Security Audit.

Addressing issues like refund delays, Najomo stated that airlines must process refunds within 14 working days, regardless of the ticket purchase method. He also clarified misconceptions about the suspension of PHCF licenses, explaining that the NCAA's actions were in line with the Civil Aviation Act 2022, aimed at ensuring compliance and sanitizing the sector.
