Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted a UK-bound shipment of cannabis, popularly known as "Loud," concealed in a duvet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The consignment, weighing 3.50 kilograms, was linked to two suspects, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun, who were arrested immediately. Balogun, the primary agent, revealed he was paid ₦700,000 for the operation but used most of the funds on logistics and accommodation.
Further raids in Lagos uncovered a drug hideout in Ikorodu where two suspects, Joseph Oluwasegun Adewale and Biodun Adelakun, were apprehended. Recovered items included seven liters of "skuchies," three locally-made double-barrel rifles, pistols, ammunition, and an axe. In Mushin, NDLEA operatives seized 47kg of skunk and 25.46kg of nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as "laughing gas."
Operations extended beyond Lagos to Ekiti State, where a 26-year-old suspect was arrested with 1.95kg of Canadian Loud. In Kwara State, 50,000 pills of tramadol weighing 36.56kg were seized from a suspect, while in Kano, a Nigerien national and two others were arrested with 13.1kg of skunk and 125 liters of "suck and die," a psychoactive substance. Additionally, a cannabis plantation was discovered and destroyed in Dawakin Kudu, Kano, leading to the arrest of a suspect linked to the farm.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), commended the officers for their efforts, reiterating the agency’s unwavering commitment to tackling drug trafficking and preventing substance abuse across Nigeria.
