The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has issued a clarification regarding recent media reports suggesting that 20 chairmanship candidates tested positive for drugs in the state.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics Public Relations Officer Sadiq Maigatari clarified that the NDLEA did not specifically claim that 20 chairmanship candidates had tested positive. Instead, the agency confirmed that 20 candidates tested positive for drugs, but this number was not linked to any particular political position or party.

The NDLEA emphasized that candidates undergoing drug integrity tests are doing so on an individual basis, and their results are not associated with their specific electoral positions or political affiliations.

The statement read: “It is important to note that candidates are presenting themselves for the drug integrity test on an individual basis, without indication of the position they are aspiring for (Chairmanship or Councilorship) or the political party they belong to.”

The NDLEA urged the public to await the official release of the test results at the conclusion of the screening process. The agency reassured that it is committed to maintaining transparency and accuracy throughout the electoral process.
