The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully rehabilitated and counseled 122 drug users over the past year in Enugu State. This announcement was made by the Enugu State Commander, Abel Sunu Wadahi, during a seminar commemorating the United Nations Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 in Enugu.
During the event, which involved pupils from various schools and other stakeholders, Wadahi disclosed that the agency seized 1,874 tons of illicit drugs, including cocaine, cannabis sativa, and methamphetamine. In the same period, 51 suspected drug offenders were prosecuted, with 85 cases still pending in court. He emphasized the central role of drug abuse in fueling insurgencies and other criminal activities in the country.

Wadahi highlighted the NDLEA's ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse through effective strategies and community engagement. He encouraged those struggling with drug abuse to seek help from the agency and urged families and parents to educate their children about the dangers of drug use. He also called on religious bodies, traditional institutions, and NGOs to support the fight against drug abuse.
Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Emmanuel Obi, addressed the youth, stressing the severe consequences of drug abuse, including health issues, addiction, and potential death. He urged young people to focus on their studies and talents, reminding them that they are the future leaders of the state and country. Obi's message underscored the importance of making informed choices and working together to build a drug-free society.
