The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called on Nigerians to prioritise their health and safety during the festive period by making responsible, drug-free choices.
In a Christmas message shared on its official X page on Thursday, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (retd.), extended warm seasonal greetings to Nigerians and commended NDLEA officers for their commitment to protecting communities from drug abuse.
“Your dedication and sacrifice in safeguarding our communities from the dangers of drug abuse are deeply appreciated,” Marwa said.
He urged members of the public to use the holiday season as a time to embrace healthy living and avoid the temptation of drug use, stressing that personal choices play a key role in building a safer society.

“Together, we can build a safer, healthier and more prosperous Nigeria. I wish everyone a peaceful, joyous and drug-free Christmas,” he added.
The message comes amid growing concern over drug abuse in the country. Recent data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime’s World Drug Report 2025 shows that drug use prevalence in Nigeria stands at 14.4 per cent almost three times the global average affecting an estimated 14.3 million Nigerians between the ages of 15 and 64.
Marwa emphasised that public awareness, vigilance and personal responsibility remain crucial in reducing drug-related harm and promoting the wellbeing of communities, especially during festive celebrations.
