A top official of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has debunked reports claiming that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is set to leave the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations camp in Morocco.
The clarification was made public by FIFA and CAF-accredited journalist Adepoju Samuel, who said he spoke directly with the official following the widely discussed on-field incident between Osimhen and teammate Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16.
According to Samuel, the official confirmed that the issue had already been resolved internally. He stated that there was never any discussion about Osimhen exiting the tournament and described the matter as settled within the team.
The incident occurred in the 63rd minute of the match when Osimhen reacted angrily after Lookman missed a scoring opportunity despite the striker being in a good position. Cameras captured Osimhen shouting at Lookman before asking to be substituted, a moment that drew criticism from fans, especially on social media.
However, context later emerged showing that Lookman had already created two clear chances for Osimhen earlier in the game, including one that resulted in a goal. Despite this, the visible confrontation sparked debates about Osimhen’s conduct.

In response to the controversy, Lookman posted photos on Instagram showing himself alongside Osimhen and Bruno Onyemaechi after the match, with the caption “TOGETHER ALWAYS,” signalling unity within the squad.
Additionally, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and team captain Wilfred Ndidi have both downplayed the incident, insisting there is no rift between the players. They urged Nigerians to continue supporting the team as they prepare for their quarter-final clash against either Algeria or DR Congo.
The NFF maintains that the team remains focused and united as they continue their AFCON campaign.
