Niger State Governor Urges Youths to Shun Nationwide Protest

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has declared that the state's youth will not participate in the upcoming nationwide protest scheduled for August 1-10 against hunger and economic challenges in Nigeria. Speaking at a town hall meeting in Minna, Governor Bago emphasized the state's commitment to peace and tranquillity.

"We, as youths of Niger state, have distanced ourselves from the nationwide protest because we are peaceful and want peace and tranquillity," Governor Bago stated, urging youths to opt for dialogue over demonstrations. He announced measures to alleviate economic hardship, including the release of 50,000 metric tonnes of grains at a reduced price.

Governor Bago reaffirmed his support for local government autonomy while urging them to improve financial management to avoid salary arrears. He asserted the state's independence from Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds, citing ongoing development projects financed through local initiatives and investments.

The Emir of Bida and Chairman of Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Abubakar Yahaya, echoed the governor's sentiment, advising against participating in protests. Similarly, Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji assured that the state government would provide alternative engagement opportunities for youths amidst protests in other states.

The governor's proactive measures and calls for peace highlight Niger State's commitment to stability and economic resilience amidst national challenges.
