The Niger chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has decided to suspend the indefinite strike that commenced on Wednesday. This decision came after an emergency joint State Executive Council (SEC) Meeting of the NLC and TUC at Labour House in Minna on Wednesday night. The meeting followed extensive discussions with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and his executives, resulting in an agreement to address the demands of the Organised Labour.

During the meeting, the NLC and TUC SEC unanimously agreed that the progress made was sufficient for the strike to be suspended, with discussions set to continue. The motion for suspension of the strike was moved by the Chairman of RATTAWU, Comrade Isah Mahmoud, and seconded by the Chairman of NAAT, IBBUL, Dr. Hamzat Aliyu. All workers have been directed to resume work immediately.

According to the agreement reached between the Niger State Government and the Organised Labour, workers in the State and local government areas will receive N20,000 each as a wage award in March. Additionally, a tripartite committee comprising representatives of the Niger House of Assembly, the Executive, and the Organised Labour will be established to review laws and make recommendations to the government.

Furthermore, the agreement includes the refund of 10 percent Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to exempted workers in the local government areas, with outstanding refunds of N218.7 million to be paid in three installments based on zones. Additionally, all outstanding Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will receive the 2019 annual leave grant in batches from April to December 2024.
