Logically speaking, no country is poor, or there would be no human life in that space. But, by extension of the same logic, and country that cannot maximize its natural resources or endowments, risks posing poor. How do we reconcile this logic to the fact that the richest spot on planet earth, is the DR Congo, but remains a poor entity.
One of the first duties of any country is to live within it’s means. Our Nigeria, we must stress, is not a poor entity, never mind what the economists would have us believe. What has kept us in this sorry state is our indulgence in things that are not edifying for example our fancy for quick bucks bootlegging, round tripping, rent and rent and seeking carnet bagging are sure ways to abject poverty.
Nigeria exploited her full potential in the days preceding our flag and anthem independence. The Groundnut pyramids, cocoa, rubber and palm produce pit is firmly in the driver seat and out local currency was so strong that the pound striking and filler were playing catching up.
