Nigeria Customs Seizes Contraband Worth N380 Million in Ogun State

The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced the seizure of contraband items worth N380,370,911 within the last 23 days. This achievement coincides with the assumption of office of Comptroller James Ojo as the Controller of the area command.

Comptroller Ojo made this disclosure during a press briefing held at the Customs Office in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. He attributed the seizure to intensive intelligence strategies and collaborative efforts with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other agencies.

The seized items include 90 sacks and 1,309 parcels of cannabis sativa, 1,596 pieces of foreign-used pneumatic tyres, 2,922 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, 32 bales of used clothes, 1,603 cartons of frozen poultry products, and 22,600 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), among others. The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of these items amounts to N380,370,911.

Comptroller Ojo emphasized that the intercepted items were found at various locations within Ogun State, thanks to the intelligence strategies and concerted efforts of the Customs intelligence network.

The Customs Service has been proactive in its efforts to curb smuggling and illegal activities within the country, especially in border states like Ogun. The seizure of these contraband items underscores the agency's commitment to enforcing compliance with trade regulations and protecting the nation's economy.
