The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has expressed confidence in meeting this year's revenue target of N2.3 trillion through the implementation of modern customs practices such as non-intrusive inspection and physical examination.
According to Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, the Customs Area Controller for Apapa Area Command, the command can achieve the revenue target by leveraging trade facilitation and strategic interventions to curb revenue leakages.
The command has set a daily target of N8.9 billion, a weekly target of N44 billion, and a monthly target of N193 billion to accomplish the N2.3 trillion goal.
Olomu highlighted the importance of non-intrusive inspection technology in expediting cargo examination and reducing the risk of duty evasion, thereby safeguarding government revenue. The command has also blocked several financial leakages through the deployment of scanners and physical examinations to detect duty evasion.
Despite facing challenges from non-compliant traders, the command remains committed to ensuring appropriate tax payment to the Federal Government. Olomu emphasized that the command's focus is not only on revenue generation but also on trade facilitation, ensuring that compliant traders are not affected by its interventions.
