Nigeria has reiterated its unwavering support for the One-China Policy, with Hon. Jaafaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on China-Nigeria Parliamentary Relations, emphasizing that the country will not interfere in China's internal affairs.

Yakubu's statement came in response to recent remarks by Andy Yih-Ping Liu, Head of Taiwan's Trade Mission in Nigeria, who claimed that Taiwan is not a part of China. Yakubu reaffirmed that the One-China Policy remains the cornerstone of Nigeria-China relations, citing United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, which recognized the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of all of China, including Taiwan.

"The efforts by Taiwan’s trade office to challenge this stance are futile and will not succeed," Yakubu said, underlining Nigeria's long-standing commitment to respecting China's sovereignty since establishing diplomatic ties in 1971.

Addressing accusations from Liu that Beijing acts as a bully, Yakubu highlighted the success of the Nigeria-China partnership, pointing to the significant bilateral trade and infrastructural investments made by China in Nigeria. He noted that Nigeria, now China's second-largest trading partner in Africa, benefits from extensive Chinese involvement in infrastructure development, including rail networks, roads, ports, and power stations.

Yakubu concluded by emphasizing that Nigeria's relationship with China is rooted in mutual respect and non-interference in each other's internal political matters.
