The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has officially appointed Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa as the new Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). This appointment comes alongside the redeployment of the former DOPRI, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, to the newly established NAF Civil-Military Relations Branch as Director of Coordination and Cooperation.
This strategic realignment aims to bolster the NAF's public and community engagement efforts while ensuring a more effective interface with the general public and stakeholders. As the new spokesperson, Air Commodore Akinboyewa is expected to carry on the legacy of his predecessor by overseeing the NAF's media engagements, strategic communications, and information dissemination. He will focus on building public perception, maintaining transparency, and enhancing public trust and confidence in the Air Force.
Air Commodore Akinboyewa hails from the Ondo West Local Government Area in Ondo State. A graduate of the 43rd Regular Combatant Course at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the NDA, a Postgraduate Diploma in Telecommunications and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, and a Master’s Degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the NDA.
Throughout his career, he has held several key command and staff positions and attended numerous courses both locally and internationally. Additionally, he is a Distinguished Fellow of the National Defence College Nigeria and an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. This wealth of experience positions him well to lead the NAF's communications strategy during this critical period.
