The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has destroyed a terrorist logistics base in Yadi Forest, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during a targeted airstrike by Operation Whirl Punch (OPWP). This was confirmed in a statement by the NAF's Deputy Director of Public Relations, Group Capt. Kabiru Ali, in Abuja on Monday. The operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed a significant terrorist presence and weapons cache in the forest.
According to the NAF, intensive surveillance confirmed the location as a hub for terrorists and their motorcycles, reportedly linked to the notorious terrorist kingpin Kadade Gurgu, a close associate of Dogo Gide. Gurgu was allegedly offering shelter to criminal elements fleeing military operations in Sokoto and Zamfara States. Acting on this intelligence, an ISR platform and aircraft were dispatched to the area.
As the aircraft approached, terrorists were seen attempting to flee from the shrubbery. The NAF struck the logistics base, which erupted into flames, with thick black smoke filling the air. Independent sources later confirmed the destruction of the base and the deaths of many terrorists during the attack.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with surface forces to maintain dominance over the battlespace. The ongoing operations aim to eliminate terrorism and banditry across the Northwest and North Central regions of Nigeria, providing more security in the affected areas.
