Nigerian Army Arrests 47 Suspected Rail Track Vandals in Kaduna

Troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna intercepted 47 suspected rail track vandals on June 26, 2024, during a patrol in Chikun Local Government Area. The suspects were caught loading two trucks with stolen rail tracks, allegedly for a man named Alhaji Babawo, who remains at large.

At the 312 Artillery Regiment in Kaduna, the Acting Commander of the 1 Division Provost Group, Lt. Col. IY Rena, stated that the suspects were being profiled to determine their involvement. He mentioned that individual interviews and cross-examinations were conducted as part of the preliminary investigation, and efforts are ongoing to capture the gang leader.

During a site visit, some rail tracks were found hidden in a nearby bush, awaiting collection by the syndicate. Lt. Col. Rena, while handing over the suspects to the Nigeria Railway Corporation, urged security agencies to enhance measures to prevent further vandalism.

ASP Inuwa Dahiru from the Nigeria Railway Corporation praised the Army for its proactive efforts. He assured that the suspects would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted to deter similar crimes. Additionally, Lt. Colonel Musa Yahaya conveyed commendations from Maj. Gen. MLD Saraso, who urged troops to continue their dedicated efforts against crime in the region.
