The Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) has graduated 589 soldiers after completing a four-week pre-deployment training programme at the Kontagora Military Cantonment Parade Ground.
The soldiers, who arrived at the centre on January 12, 2026, underwent intensive mission-focused training aimed at preparing them for Counter Terrorism and Counter Insurgency operations.
According to a statement by the Major Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at NATRAC, Godfrey Abakpa, shared via the Nigerian Army’s official platform on Friday, the training was designed to equip the troops ahead of their deployment to the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai Theatre.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Commander of NATRAC, Major General A. Haruna, said the graduating troops represent Phase One of the Nigerian Army Rotation Plan 2026.
He explained that the training was conducted both during the day and at night to reflect real battlefield conditions. The programme covered several critical combat skills such as physical fitness and endurance, close-quarter marksmanship, obstacle crossing, convoy drills, counter-ambush drills, house clearance operations, patrol techniques, tactical medical evacuation, ground sign awareness, and counter-IED training, among others.
Haruna noted that the exercise was designed to be realistic and mission-driven, ensuring the troops are ready to tackle modern security challenges.
He added that the training supports the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General W. Shaibu, which focuses on building a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient Nigerian Army capable of operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency environment.

The commander expressed confidence that the soldiers had been exposed to new tactics and procedures that would strengthen their performance during deployment. He urged them to uphold the standards learned and remain courageous and determined in the face of hostile threats.
Haruna also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff for his continuous support and praised the officers and instructors for their dedication throughout the programme.
The ceremony ended with an unarmed combat demonstration, a tug-of-war competition, and group photographs to officially mark the completion of the training.
