The Nigeria Army's 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, announced on Tuesday that it had transferred 441 pawpaw-sized parcels suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing 223kg, to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command. Lt Mohammed Goni, the acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Brigade, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Tuesday.
According to Goni, troops intercepted a Mazda bus with registration number NRK 622 SB transporting the substance at Mologbede village in Odeda Local Government Area of the state on Friday, March 29, 2024. Brigadier General Mohammed Aminu, the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, commended the troops for their diligence and urged them to remain vigilant in their respective areas.
The statement highlighted the commendable collaboration between the military and other security agencies in Ogun State. The Commandant of the NDLEA Ogun State Command, Commander of Narcotics Jane Ibiba Odili, expressed her appreciation for General Aminu's support of NDLEA operations, which has contributed to significant successes in combating drug-related activities.
Odili emphasized that this was not the first time such a large quantity of Cannabis Sativa had been intercepted by the military and handed over to the agency. She further noted that with the military's support, the NDLEA had been able to dismantle drug syndicates and make significant progress in its anti-drug efforts.
