The Nigerian Army has identified eight individuals wanted in connection with the killing of 17 soldiers in the Okuama community of Delta State. The announcement, made via the Army's official X account on Thursday, lists seven men and one woman as persons of interest.

Among those declared wanted are Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono, Prof Ekpekpo Arthur, Andaowei Dennis Bakriki, Igoli Ebi (female), Akata Malawa David, Sinclear Oliki, Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe, and Reuben Baru.

The incident in Okuama has sparked a widespread search for the suspects, with the Army extending its operations to Igbomotoru in Bayelsa State, where the suspected mastermind and his gang are believed to be based. Three individuals were apprehended in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, last Tuesday in connection with the killings.

The motive behind the attack appears to be more than just a land dispute between Okuama and Okoloba in Bomadi local government area, as it is believed to involve disagreements related to oil bunkering. Lt. Col Ali, one of the victims, had been actively combating illegal oil activities in the area, leading to speculation that his murder was orchestrated.

General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), has vowed to apprehend the perpetrators, stating, "We know who did it." He emphasized the need to recover stolen arms and prosecute those responsible for the attack. The Army has also acknowledged a viral video featuring a militant leader confessing to his involvement in the killings, urging communities and state governments to assist in locating the culprits.
