The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has refuted online reports suggesting it established a hotel in Abuja, emphasizing the misinformation circulating in the media. Service Spokesman Abubakar Umar clarified the situation, stating that the hotel in question was actually built in 2021 and is exclusively owned by the Correctional Cooperative Society (COCOS), a cooperative society for all NCoS personnel formed in 1996.

Umar explained that the COCOS operates a Microfinance Bank that provides financial support to serving and retired personnel, offering soft loans and other financial services to enhance their welfare. The cooperative also serves as a welfare system for retired and deceased personnel, ensuring timely payment of entitlements to beneficiaries.

The hotel, located along Bill Clinton Drive Airport Road in Abuja, has been operational since its establishment in 2021 and is owned by COCOS, managed as a corporate entity. It has created job opportunities for many youths and received commendations from dignitaries.

The Controller General of Corrections (CGC) urged the public to disregard the misleading report and patronize the hotel for its excellent services at competitive prices. He also advised news reporters to verify information regarding the NCoS through the Public Relations Officer and official channels before publication.
