In response to escalating violence by a newly-emerged terrorist group, Lakurawa, Nigeria's Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has deployed military forces to Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi State. The deployment, equipped with armored tanks and advanced weaponry, follows an appeal from Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, after an attack on Mera village claimed at least 17 lives.

The troops, upon arrival, held a strategic meeting with Kebbi’s Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida, before advancing to Mera. In swift operations, they confronted the terrorists and retrieved cattle left behind by the attackers. Abdullahi Idris Zuru, media aide to the governor, described the federal intervention as vital for restoring stability in affected rural communities.

The recent surge in attacks has displaced numerous residents, intensifying concerns over security in Kebbi State. Governor Idris has reaffirmed his commitment to protecting citizens' lives and property, underscoring the necessity of federal support in countering the threat posed by Lakurawa and other armed groups destabilizing the region.
