The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has called on the United States Government to share information on impending terror attacks with Nigeria. He emphasized that such intelligence, typically provided to U.S. citizens in crisis-prone countries, could greatly assist Nigeria in combating banditry and terrorism.
Dr. Matawalle made this appeal during a meeting with Jennifer Zakriski, the Assistant Secretary for Defence for African Affairs at the U.S Department of Defence, in Abuja. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and intelligence sharing in addressing common security challenges.
The minister sought increased intelligence sharing and collaboration with the U.S. to combat banditry and terrorism. He expressed Nigeria's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United States in defence matters for the mutual benefit of both nations.
In response, Zakriski reaffirmed the United States' commitment to supporting Nigeria's efforts in addressing security concerns. She described Nigeria as a key partner in Africa and emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing shared security threats. The meeting was seen as a significant step in strengthening defence ties and enhancing regional security.
