Nigeria's First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with the office of the wife of Oyo State Governor, distributed 1,750 bags of rice to vulnerable and less privileged individuals across the 33 local governments in Oyo State on Tuesday, July 30. This initiative aims to cushion the effect of hunger amidst the current economic hardships.
Earlier, Mrs. Tinubu had distributed thousands of notebooks to students in public schools across the state, demonstrating her commitment to educational support alongside addressing food insecurity. The rice distribution took place in Ibadan, the state capital, as part of the "Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agriculture Support, Education, and Social Investment Programme," an effort by the federal government to alleviate poverty and hunger.
Represented by the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde, Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the federal government's dedication to ensuring no Nigerian goes to bed hungry. She urged beneficiaries to use the rice judiciously and expressed hope for an improvement in the country's economic situation soon.
The beneficiaries, including widows, orphans, and the elderly, expressed their gratitude to the First Lady, acknowledging that the rice would significantly alleviate their suffering and provide them with a renewed sense of hope. Mrs. Makinde highlighted that this rice distribution is part of a broader, nationwide initiative by the First Lady to support Nigerians affected by hunger and poverty.
