The Nigerian Army has cautioned the 157 soldiers set for a peacekeeping mission in South Sudan to uphold the nation's reputation as they embark on their deployment. Following the completion of their pre-deployment training, the troops are scheduled for duty at Abyei in South Sudan.
Addressing the soldiers at their graduation ceremony from the pre-deployment training held at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre (MLAILPKC) in Jaji, Kaduna State, Maj.-Gen. Boniface Sinjen, the Nigerian Army’s Chief of Operation, urged them to steer clear of activities such as sexual exploitation and drug trafficking, which could tarnish Nigeria’s image.
Sinjen emphasized the importance of adhering to the rules of engagement, respecting human rights, and embracing diversity in their operational environment. He underscored that the graduation of the contingent showcased the commitment and capability of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to deploy competent peacekeepers in support of global peace and security.
Highlighting Nigeria’s National Defence Policy, which prioritizes the security and stability of Africa, particularly the West African sub-region, Sinjen reiterated Nigeria's dedication to global peace and security through active participation in Peace Support Operations worldwide.
