The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to prioritize social dialogue and ensure industrial peace in 2025.
In a New Year message titled “In 2025, Hope is Our Collective Resolve,” NLC President Joe Ajaero stressed the importance of respecting agreements with trade unions and fostering inclusivity in governance.

- Social Dialogue: Ajaero emphasized that social dialogue is essential for nation-building, urging the Federal Government to engage critical stakeholders in policy-making processes.
- Respect for Agreements: He called for the government to uphold agreements with trade unions, describing them as vital partners in the country’s progress.
- Workers’ Welfare: Ajaero insisted on compliance with the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, highlighting that a productive nation requires workers’ incomes to meet basic needs.
- Inclusive Governance: He reiterated that governance must translate into tangible benefits for citizens, with workers' welfare at the forefront.
A Path Forward
Ajaero noted that social dialogue fosters ownership of government policies, promoting stability and sustainability:
“To create a thriving, democratic nation, we need a system built on the tenets of social dialogue, allowing critical stakeholders to participate actively in nation-building,” he said.
The NLC president called for unity in addressing workers’ welfare, decent work environments, and national security.
