NLC President Joe Ajaero Urges FG to Prioritize Social Dialogue and Workers’ Welfare in 2025

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to prioritize social dialogue and ensure industrial peace in 2025.

In a New Year message titled “In 2025, Hope is Our Collective Resolve,” NLC President Joe Ajaero stressed the importance of respecting agreements with trade unions and fostering inclusivity in governance.

  • Social Dialogue: Ajaero emphasized that social dialogue is essential for nation-building, urging the Federal Government to engage critical stakeholders in policy-making processes.
  • Respect for Agreements: He called for the government to uphold agreements with trade unions, describing them as vital partners in the country’s progress.
  • Workers’ Welfare: Ajaero insisted on compliance with the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act, highlighting that a productive nation requires workers’ incomes to meet basic needs.
  • Inclusive Governance: He reiterated that governance must translate into tangible benefits for citizens, with workers' welfare at the forefront.

A Path Forward

Ajaero noted that social dialogue fosters ownership of government policies, promoting stability and sustainability:
“To create a thriving, democratic nation, we need a system built on the tenets of social dialogue, allowing critical stakeholders to participate actively in nation-building,” he said.

The NLC president called for unity in addressing workers’ welfare, decent work environments, and national security.

Ajaero concluded with a rallying call:
