The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has thrown its full support behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the ongoing battle against corruption in Nigeria. Joe Ajaero, President of the NLC, affirmed this commitment during the EFCC Walk against Corruption held in Abuja on Thursday, which was also observed across various states in the country.

In his address, Ajaero underscored the urgency of combating corruption, declaring, “There’s an urgent need for us to fight corruption, and the NLC will throw its weight behind the agency in all fights against corruption.” He urged the EFCC to remain vigilant against misinformation and to ensure that genuine Nigerians continue to support their efforts.

Highlighting the importance of national unity in this endeavor, Ajaero suggested that the EFCC should mobilize Nigerians into a mass movement against corruption. He referenced Nigerian author Chinua Achebe’s analogy from "The Trouble with Nigeria," illustrating the persistence of corruption without effective measures.

Ajaero emphasized that the fight against corruption is not just for the present but for future generations, stating, “We have to make sure that this fight, we are taking it to the next generation. It’s a fight that we can’t afford to lose. If we lose this fight, we have lost the essence of our existence as a nation.”

Expressing concern over the impact of corruption on Nigeria’s development and international reputation, Ajaero lamented, “We are now a laughing stock to some countries where we dump our money, and such cities are so beautiful while Nigeria is suffering.”

In closing, he rallied all Nigerians, saying, “My brothers and sisters, I wish to pledge the support of the NLC any time, any day, any moment. We have to come together to fight corruption before corruption will ruin the country.” The NLC's stance reinforces its commitment to supporting the EFCC's efforts in combating corruption for a better future for Nigeria.
