The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the public to disregard the congresses reportedly planned by the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing the move as unconstitutional and invalid.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, the NNPP said all court-ordered congresses had already been conducted and concluded, and that no other group was authorised to organise fresh ones.
According to the party, the Kwankwaso-led group recently wrote to INEC announcing plans to hold new congresses and a national convention from November 25 to January 2026. The NNPP dismissed the move, saying the Memorandum of Association it once had with the Kwankwasiya group ahead of the 2023 presidential election had long expired.
The party added that Kwankwaso and several members of the Kwankwasiya Movement remain expelled for anti-party activities.
“We are shocked that a man of Kwankwaso’s stature still insists on trying to take over a party that gave him the platform to contest the 2023 presidential election at no cost,” the statement said.
The NNPP insisted that INEC must respect court rulings and publish the legitimate leadership of the party on its website. It noted that two courts — the Abia State High Court and the FCT High Court — had affirmed the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his group, barring them from participating in the party’s internal processes.
The statement criticised Kwankwaso for allegedly disregarding court judgments and accused INEC of failing to act on repeated letters requesting compliance with the rulings.

“As the electoral umpire, INEC cannot continue to sit on the fence on issues that affect peace and order in the society,” the party said.
The NNPP also urged its members nationwide to ignore the “fake congresses and conventions,” adding that only strict adherence to the law would sustain democracy and align with the national Renewed Hope Agenda.
The party called on INEC to uphold the rule of law and protect the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
