The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Rivers State Command has disrupted a major illegal crude oil refining operation at cemeteries in the Abalama and Oproama communities of Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State. During a four-hour operational tour along the waterway, the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Olufemi Ayodele, revealed that the illicit activity was uncovered through sustained intelligence efforts.
SP Ayodele highlighted that this operation follows a directive from the NSCDC Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mandating increased intelligence and operational efficiency in the Niger Delta region. In response, Rivers State Commandant Basil Igwebueze deployed the Marine Antivandal Squad to the crime scene, where numerous boats filled with crude oil and refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were discovered.

"The suspects fled the scene upon our arrival, aware of the superior firepower of the Marine Antivandal Squad," Ayodele reported. "The NSCDC condemns all acts of environmental pollution, degradation of aquatic life, and economic sabotage. We are working with community members to apprehend the perpetrators."
Despite the successful operation, the exact quantity of the locally refined AGO remains undetermined. Ayodele warned against the continued activities of vandals and illegal bunkers, emphasizing the NSCDC's commitment to the relentless fight against oil theft. He assured that all suspects and their sponsors will face the full wrath of the law.
This operation underscores the NSCDC's dedication to protecting Nigeria's environmental and economic resources from illegal activities that jeopardize the nation's prosperity and ecological health.
