The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has initiated the upgrading of Airport Road lighting using intelligent Smart Light Emitting Diode (Smart LED) lights. This upgrade aligns with the vision of a modern FCT, enhancing the ongoing infrastructural development efforts.

Awarded by the FCT Administration, this project aims to replace conventional High-Pressure Sodium (HPS) lights with Smart LED technology, bringing the nation's capital in line with 21st-century standards seen in other developed countries.

Bro Felix Obuah, the coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), revealed plans to extend this upgrade to all major roads and streets in Abuja. He confirmed that the contract has been awarded and will be implemented gradually to illuminate the entire city.

Concrete Thinking Limited, the company overseeing the project, has already begun replacing HPS lights with Smart LED lights, starting from the Airport Road area to the central area of the FCT. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs by up to 60 per cent.

Mrs Ronke Ozoh, an Executive Director of Tejaff Multi-Concept Limited, highlighted the intelligent features of the LED lighting system, including remote management and accurate monitoring of energy consumption. This upgrade not only enhances the city's aesthetics but also improves safety and boosts the night economy.

Mr Lennox Adigwe, an Abuja resident, commended the initiative and urged the Minister to extend the upgrade to other parts of the city, specifically mentioning Constitution Road (B12), Independence Road (B6), and other areas in need of modernization. He emphasized the potential job creation and safety benefits for residents.
