Youth Development Minister Jamila Bio-Ibrahim has announced plans to restructure the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to align with future demands. The minister disclosed that a team would soon be inaugurated to undertake the review, restructuring, and reforms of the NYSC.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the maiden meeting of NYSC management with heads of corps producing institutions in Nigeria, Bio-Ibrahim outlined the vision for the reforms. She emphasized the focus on participants with an entrepreneurship mindset, aiming to make skills development a core aspect of the programme. The objective is to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and overall benefit to participants.

The minister highlighted the goal for the NYSC programmes to become self-sustained and revenue-generating within the next five years. To achieve this, the NYSC ventures will be institutionalized as an investment and asset management outfit. Additionally, as part of the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund programme for 2024, over 5,000 corps members will have their entrepreneurial ventures funded with up to N10 million upon completion of their service.

NYSC Director General Brig.-Gen. Yushau Dogara Ahmed explained that the meeting aimed to enhance the mobilization of prospective corps members. It sought to address flaws and ensure a more seamless mobilization process, building on previous discussions with heads of corps producing institutions in West Africa.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike commended the NYSC for bringing stakeholders together to brainstorm on strategies for greater success. He noted that this initiative aligns with global best practices for achieving desired results, emphasizing the NYSC's role in national development, unity, and integration.
