Obasanjo Laments Nigeria’s Policy Failures, Calls for Action-Oriented Leadership

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has criticized Nigeria's tendency to abandon policies, describing the country as a "burial ground for policies." Speaking on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Space Centre in Abuja, Obasanjo noted that Nigeria has consistently struggled with implementing and executing its policies, leading to stagnation.

Obasanjo emphasized that Nigeria is not lacking in policies that could drive progress but has failed to take concrete actions. "Those who make progress do so by taking action, not by wishing for it. Unfortunately, we take two steps forward and three steps backward in every aspect of national life," he said, urging leaders to focus on achievable goals.

The former president was the Special Guest of Honour at the 8th Engr. Brig. Gen. (rtd) Michael Agu Annual Distinguished Lecture and Awards, organized by the Nigerian Institution of Space Engineers. He was honored as the Grand Commander of Nigerian Space Exploration during the event.

Obasanjo also reflected on his administration's efforts to advance Nigeria’s space program, recalling how over 100 Nigerian engineers were trained in China with plans to launch satellites. However, he expressed disappointment over the lack of progress, revealing that at one point, the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) struggled to even pay its workers.
