Ogun Alerts Abeokuta Residents to Road Closures, Traffic Diversions Ahead of Anniversary Carnival

Ogun State

The Ogun State Government has warned motorists and residents in Abeokuta to expect road closures and traffic diversions on Thursday, ahead of the Cultural and Carnival/Float Parade marking the state’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

The advisory was issued on Monday by the spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who said the measures were necessary due to the heavy human and vehicular traffic expected in the Central Business District during the event.

According to TRACE, compliance with the planned diversions is mandatory to ensure public safety and prevent traffic congestion. Akinbiyi explained that the affected routes would only be blocked temporarily to allow the safe passage of the carnival motorcade, which is expected to last for about one hour.

He assured residents that TRACE operatives, alongside other security and safety agencies, would be deployed at all diversion and blocked points to manage traffic, maintain order and ensure motorists comply with safety rules.

“The motoring public is also advised to be orderly and obey parking regulations and guidelines while within the MKO Sports Arena, to avoid vehicles being clamped or sanctioned for traffic infractions,” Akinbiyi said.
