A 50-year-old farmer, Alfa Mustapha, has been shot dead at close range on his farm in Ageri Village, near Olodo, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Mustapha’s lifeless body was discovered on Saturday, February 22, 2025, hours after an unidentified assailant attacked him.
Community Alarmed as Police Investigate Murder
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, on Sunday, stating that detectives have launched a full-scale investigation into the killing.
The murder was reported around 6:30 p.m. at the Olodo Police Outstation by Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, Moshood Mustapha, after the victim failed to return home from his farm.
According to the Imam, he went searching for Mustapha and found him lying face-up, his cutlass beside him, but showing no immediate signs of violence due to poor visibility and heavy rainfall.
Doctor Confirms Fatal Gunshot Wounds
Upon police arrival, the scene was documented with photographs, and Mustapha’s body was transported to the General Hospital, Odeda, for further examination.
A medical assessment later confirmed that he had suffered gunshot wounds from pellets, indicating that he was shot at close range. His body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for forensic analysis.
Police Commissioner Orders Intensive Investigation
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the killer(s).
"The Command will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice," the police assured in a statement.
The police have also urged the public to come forward with any useful information, assuring that all details provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
This tragic incident has sparked concerns among local farmers and residents, who now fear for their safety amid rising security threats in the region.
