Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has issued three Executive Orders, as announced on Saturday in Abeokuta. The orders establish two new agencies and restrict traditional rulers from signing land-related Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).

The new agencies are the Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency and the Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency. According to Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, the Mineral Resources Development Agency will collaborate with host communities to conduct geo-technical and geological surveys of solid mineral deposits.

The Landscaping and Recreation Agency aims to sustain environmental regeneration efforts, maintaining parks, gardens, and recreational centers to preserve biodiversity and the ecosystem. This agency will support the Ministry of Environment’s initiatives, including an aggressive tree-planting campaign for a healthier and more beautiful state.

The third Executive Order prevents traditional rulers from entering into MoUs concerning mining or other land matters. This measure is intended to prevent the circumvention of government regulations and oversight. Traditional rulers are instructed to stop issuing consent letters for mining activities, with violations subject to sanctions under the Kings and Chiefs’ Law and other relevant statutes.
