Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Saturday commissioned the rebuilt Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) Complex in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, months after it was destroyed by fire.
The complex was gutted by a fire outbreak on January 11, which razed over 25 shops and destroyed goods worth millions of naira. Following the incident, the governor visited the site, sympathised with the victims, and promised to rebuild the market and support affected traders.
Fulfilling that promise, Okpebholo not only commissioned the reconstructed complex but also announced a donation of N200 million to assist shop owners who lost their goods in the fire.
“We all remember this market. About three or four months ago, there was a fire incident here. We came to inspect the damage and promised to rebuild it,” the governor said.

“Today, we are seeing that promise fulfilled. It is always good to keep one’s word. We also promised to support the traders, and we will release N200 million to help them recover.”
The governor added that the funds would be distributed to verified victims to help them restart their businesses.
The rebuilding of the POWA complex marks a significant step in restoring economic activity in the area and providing relief to traders affected by the devastating fire.
