The Army has released HRM Clement Ikolo, the traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom, after detaining him for three weeks in connection with the killing of 17 military personnel at Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State, on March 14. Senator Thomas Joel Onowakpo appealed for his release during a meeting with Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, in Abuja.

The monarch was among eight individuals declared wanted by military authorities following their alleged involvement in the tragic incident at Okuama. He surrendered himself to security authorities in Delta State before being handed over to the military in Abuja.

Expressing concerns over the monarch's continued detention, Senator Nwoko led a delegation urging for his release, stating that prolonged detention could escalate tensions within Delta State. He emphasized the need for calm and cooperation in addressing the causes of the Okuama tragedy.

Additionally, fruitful discussions were held on other matters, including the discovery of an illegal arms factory in Onicha-Olona community, Aniocha North Local Government Area. Senator Nwoko requested further support and attention to address underlying issues highlighted by the discovery, such as promoting indigenous technologists and developing the technology sector. Furthermore, he advocated for the construction of new headquarters for the 63 Brigade in Delta State.

Following the Okuama tragedy, the military has occupied the community to recover missing weapons and arms. A panel of inquiry has also been constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing of the officers and soldiers, allegedly by some irate youths of the Okuama community.
