Ondo State's former Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Wale Akinterinwa, has expressed concern over the alleged resurgence of thuggery in the state's political landscape. Akinterinwa, an APC gubernatorial aspirant, claimed that hoodlums attacked citizens welcoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.

In a statement from his campaign spokesman, Segun Ajiboye, Akinterinwa alleged that the thugs were sponsored by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

According to the statement, the thugs, riding in unmarked vehicles, openly displayed their intentions by destroying billboards of other APC gubernatorial aspirants. They were also reported to have brandished assorted guns, causing panic among thousands of APC supporters who had gathered to welcome President Tinubu.

This incident occurred shortly after the Wale Akinterinwa Campaign Structure had raised concerns about attempts by elements acting on behalf of Aiyedatiwa to prevent APC members and leaders from receiving President Tinubu.

Reacting to the allegations, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ebenezer Adeniyan, refuted the claims, stating that the governor's associates would not engage in such activities. He described the incident as a sad reminder of past political violence in Ondo State and emphasized the need to avoid a return to such dark days.
