No cholera outbreak has been recorded in Ondo State despite recent cases in other parts of Nigeria. In January, two cases were reported in Okitipupa local government area but were successfully contained.
On Wednesday, Commissioner for Health Dr. Banji Ajaka announced the activation of a surveillance network across the state to respond to any potential cholera outbreaks. The state has bolstered its Rapid Response Team, including PHC coordinators, lab focal persons, and Disease Surveillance officers.

Dr. Ajaka highlighted that the COPREP program has further strengthened the surveillance team, with community informants and contact tracers trained and placed on stipends for eight months. Efforts are ongoing to maintain vigilance and prevent any new cases.
Despite repeated attempts, Dr. Ajaka was unavailable to confirm if any new outbreaks have been reported since Wednesday.
