ONE COLLAPSED STRUCTURE MANY THE CRIMINAL CULTURE OF SILENCE

structure building

Whenever we insist that we deserve what we get in this country, do-gooders counter that we are demarketing the country or that we are simply being    . No, we are not dooms sayers but realists who rationalise what we are doing with what nature a has given us. Just on Monday, Novemeber 1st, a 21 storey high rise structure on General Road Ikoyi, avoidably collapsed looking some people with more hapless folks trapped in the rubble. We would later be told, standoffishly, that the approval was for a 15 storey structure. We are told what is likely to happen again. But truth be said, this is not going to be the last time we would mess with a collapsed building, anywhere in the country. We have been there before on September 14, 2014, a Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Ikotun here in Lagos came down with 118 people, 80 of them South Africans. We were told the approval was for a 5 storey building. Nothing happened, and nothing would happen. Again, on December 16 2016, the time of a church at Uyo, Akwaibom state caved in, with more than 200 people killed. The Governor Emmanuel Udom barely came out alive, although the personal assistant who pushed him to safety died in the rubble. Official figures of those killed avoidably was put at 25. Nobody, as I speak has been made to answer for the avoidable mess, and nobody would be called to question. This conspiracy of silence is the sickening angle to the whole episode of course, we are taking notes.
