Dear Sir,
RE:URGENT DEMAND FOR THE SETTING ASIDE OF THE 2025 UNIFIED TERTIARY MATRICULATION EXAMINATION (UTME)
We are Public Interest Solicitors to the Nigerian public, and we are writing to formally address the significant and disturbing issues that arose during the conduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
As the Principal Partner of the Chambers of Evans Ufeli and a concerned parent, education advocate, etc., representing the interests of numerous affected stakeholders, I wish to articulate grave concerns surrounding the examination's management and its implications on the candidates' welfare and academic rights.
It is imperative to note that the fundamental objective of the UTME is to evaluate candidates' academic preparedness and intellect for admission into tertiary institutions. Regrettably, the 2025 examination failed to fulfill this fundamental purpose due to the following disturbing circumstances:
1. Unreasonable Scheduling
Candidates were instructed to report to examination centers at extraordinarily early hours, often as early as 6:00 AM. This requirement subjected vulnerable 15 to 16-year-old students to excessive stress and anxiety, drastically affecting their mental well-being.
2. Reports of Missing Candidates
Disturbing accounts surfaced regarding children reported missing during the examination period. This situation not only poses significant concerns for the safety and security of the candidates but also signifies a systemic failure in the supervision and arrangement of the examination process.
3. Delayed Examination Commencement
Numerous candidates experienced significant delays before their examinations commenced. Such delays led to heightened anxiety levels and adversely impacted candidates’ ability to perform to the best of their abilities.
4. Technical Malfunctions
An array of technical issues, including malfunctioning computers at various centers, further exacerbated an already troubling situation. Many students were left unable to complete their examinations in a structured and timely manner as a result of these failures.
The cumulative effect of these issues was not a fair assessment of candidates’ academic potential but rather a test of their resilience in the face of distressing and chaotic conditions. Such circumstances contradict the fundamental principles of fairness and justice, which JAMB is mandated to uphold.
In light of these serious concerns, I hereby formally demand that JAMB take immediate action to set aside the results of the 2025 UTME and conduct a new examination under conditions that will ensure fairness, transparency, and the integrity of the assessment process. Ensuring that such an examination is conducted in adherence to standard practices is not merely an administrative matter; it is an ethical obligation to the youth of our nation, whose futures depend on fair educational assessments.
I urge JAMB to treat this matter with the utmost urgency, recognizing its substantial implications for the affected students and the broader educational framework. I await your prompt response regarding the actions that will be taken in connection with this pressing issue.
If the aforesaid issue is not addressed, we shall have no other option but to escalate this matter and proceed against you in the court of law for redress.
Thank you for your attention and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
For: THE CHAMBERS OF EVANS UFELI
