Oyo Govt Condemns Road Vandalism, Acts Swiftly

The Oyo State government has condemned the destruction of a portion of the newly rehabilitated Olusoji-WCCI road, just days after its official opening. In response, the government has sealed off the shop where the vehicle responsible for the damage offloaded its goods. A viral video showing the destroyed section of the road surfaced over the weekend, prompting swift action from the authorities.

Busoye Ogunlade, chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency, confirmed the incident, revealing that a truck carrying over 60 tonnes of cement lost its brakes and damaged the road. Expressing disappointment, Ogunlade criticized the truck driver for fleeing the scene, labeling the act as cowardly. He described the destruction as a deliberate act of sabotage against a crucial infrastructure project.

Ogunlade emphasized the socio-economic importance of the Olusoji-WCCI road, condemning the vandalism in the strongest terms. He assured residents that the road, completed just last week, is vital for bridging the gap in the area's road infrastructure needs. Ogunlade appreciated the local community for their concern and support, promising swift repairs to the damaged section.

A technical team was promptly deployed to inspect and repair the road, ensuring the damaged portion was fixed almost immediately. Additionally, the building where the truck offloaded its cement has been sealed. Ogunlade vowed that the Agency would ensure perpetrators of such acts face the full wrath of the law, reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting public infrastructure.
