The Oyo State government has issued a warning to residents, urging them to disregard a viral social media post claiming that Governor Seyi Makinde approved a N20,000 Ramadan support fund for 2024. The government clarified that the report is false and did not originate from any official source. It cautioned residents to be vigilant against fraudulent schemes and assured that Governor Makinde's administration is committed to transparency and openness.
The fake news circulating on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp suggested that the fund was approved to alleviate financial challenges during Ramadan, citing inflation, economic hardship, and high food costs. It directed people to apply for the fund through a suspicious website. However, the government emphasized that there is no ongoing N20,000 Ramadan Support Fund and advised the public to be wary of such misleading information.
Governor Makinde's Special Adviser (Media), Sulaimon Olanrewaju, emphasized that the state government would never implement such a program without proper communication through official channels. He urged the public to stay cautious and avoid falling victim to scams during these challenging economic times. The government reaffirmed its commitment to keeping residents informed through legitimate communication channels, dismissing the fraudulent claims surrounding the Ramadan support fund.
