Paystack co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, has announced that he has been fired by the company following allegations of sexual misconduct—claims he says are untrue and handled unfairly.
Olubi revealed this in a blog post published on Saturday, November 23, 2025, where he expressed disappointment with how the company dealt with the situation.
The issue began in mid-November after a social media user accused him of abusive behaviour. The post quickly spread online, leading people to dig up explicit tweets he posted between 2009 and 2013. The resurfaced tweets sparked heavy criticism and renewed scrutiny of his past online behaviour.
In response, Paystack confirmed that it had suspended him and launched a formal investigation, promising to appoint an independent reviewer to assess the allegations.
However, in his blog post titled Terminated, Olubi said he was dismissed while the investigation was still ongoing and without being given a chance to defend himself.
“Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question,” he wrote.
He explained that he remained silent after his suspension to allow the investigation to run its course, expecting a fair and transparent process. But according to him, the company made its decision without granting him any meeting or opportunity to respond.
He described the termination as a violation of the terms of his suspension and contrary to the company’s internal procedures. Olubi added that the silence he maintained allowed rumours and assumptions to spread unchecked.
He insisted that the old tweets being circulated do not represent who he is today.
“Those who know me personally or professionally understand that the posts being circulated do not reflect my conduct or the way I have lived my life. I have always conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety,” he wrote.

Paystack Co-Founder Ezra Olubi Deactivates X Account After Old Tweets Resurface Amid Fresh Allegations
He said his legal team is now considering possible next steps.
The allegations began after someone who had a past relationship with him shared personal complaints online. This triggered further attention toward several explicit tweets he wrote between 2009 and 2013—some of which contained inappropriate and sexually suggestive comments involving colleagues and minors. His X account has since been deactivated.
Paystack, founded in 2015 by Olubi and Shola Akinlade, is one of Africa’s leading payment companies. It became the first Nigerian startup to join Y Combinator in 2016 and was acquired by Stripe in 2020 for over $200 million.
