PDP Has Been Resurrected — Bode George Declares After Crucial NEC Meeting

A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, Chief Bode George, has declared that the main opposition party has been “resurrected” following a crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting aimed at resolving its internal crisis.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, George dismissed speculations about the party’s decline, stating, “We have already done the resurrection today. An iroko tree doesn’t die — this party is an iroko tree because the tap root is so deep.”

George criticized certain party members for prioritizing personal interests over the founding ideals of the PDP, saying the party had drifted away from the vision of its forebears. However, he expressed optimism that the tide is turning. “We have learnt a lesson,” he said, recalling the unity and resolve demonstrated during the NEC meeting. “I left the chambers feeling reinvigorated.”

He emphasized that the PDP is not owned by any single individual, stating, “No individual can claim ownership of this party.”

Highlighting the role of the PDP’s Board of Trustees in steering the party back to its core values, George praised BoT Chairman Adolphus Wabara for urging members to embrace selflessness. “We must have more selfless leaders and fewer selfish leaders,” George echoed.

When asked whether he might defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), George ruled out the possibility, criticizing the APC's policies and President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He insisted that the 2023 presidential election was flawed and argued that the APC did not genuinely win the contest.
