Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has praised President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government for embracing the implementation of the Steve Oronsanye’s report. In a statement shared on social media, Obi revealed that he had also planned to implement the Oronsanye report if elected president, as it was a key component of his 2023 manifesto.

He emphasized the importance of good governance, cost-effectiveness, and productivity, stating that implementing the Oronsanye report would help achieve these goals. Obi urged for constructive criticism and cooperation with the government, especially when it makes decisions in the best interest of the nation. He suggested that the government should now focus on reducing the cost of governance across all levels.

However, Obi advised against rushing the implementation of the Oronsanye report, particularly considering its potential impact on civil servants. He stressed the need for a thorough understanding of the federal bureaucracy and the implications of downsizing. Obi also called for transparency in revealing the savings from the downsizing and how these funds would be redirected to critical sectors such as Education, Health, and Poverty Alleviation.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of implementing the report while minimizing the adverse effects on workers, ensuring that the process is accompanied by a clear plan to prevent future government expansion. Obi's statement highlighted his belief that by implementing the right policies, Nigeria can achieve its aspirations for a brighter future.
