The Plateau State Government has confirmed the successful rescue of 25 people who were kidnapped in Wase Local Government Area late last year.
The Secretary to the State Government, Samuel Jatau, made this known on Saturday while briefing journalists at the Rayfield Government House in Jos.
According to Jatau, the victims were abducted on December 21, 2025, while travelling to attend Eid-el-Maulud celebrations. He explained that the kidnappers posed as vigilantes before carrying out the attack.
“We are glad to inform the public that security agencies have rescued 25 kidnapped children,” Jatau said. “They were on their way for Eid-el-Maulud when they were abducted in Wase. There were 28 people in the vehicle, but three managed to escape during the incident.”
He disclosed that the rescued victims include six females and 19 males. They were freed following sustained efforts by the state government working closely with security agencies.
Jatau added that all the rescued individuals have undergone medical examinations and are in stable condition, with only minor injuries recorded.
Commending the security operatives involved, he specifically praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for their role in the operation. “We want to appreciate the DSS for the excellent work they are doing across the state,” he said.

The victims have since been handed over to officials of Wase Local Government Area. Jatau urged the council to provide psychological support and monitor their recovery before they are reunited with their families.
“The local government should take care of them for a few weeks, ensure they receive psychological support, and confirm they are fully okay before sending them home,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the victims and expressed gratitude to all security agencies, while calling for continued collaboration to sustain peace and security in Plateau State.
